First appearance of The Puppet. In the game, you are given a music box which placates The Puppet.

The date of the paycheque in the game places the events of the game in 1987, making FNAF 2 a prequel. At the end of night six, news paper clippings show that Freddy Fazbear’s is closing and new toy versions of the animatronics are to be used. The old ones are going into storage for a new, smaller scale version of the restaurant. The building in the first FNAF is significantly smaller than the building we see in FNAF 2. More evidence that FNAF 2 is a prequel is that the phone guy explains on the first night that the animatronics used to walk around during the day, but not anymore. Phone guy dies at the end of the first game, so it’s not possible for him to be giving us tips to survive in the second game.

Posters all over the restaurant welcome you to the new location, so there was another Freddy Fazbear’s pizza before this one. Phone guy also mentions the old location on the first night and how it was left to rot. The Phone Guy mentions an even older restaurant called “Fredbear’s Family Diner”, which had different owners. This diner is where the whole story begins.

Death min-games

Before you die in FNAF 2, you sometimes get a screen that looks like an Atari game. These games use Atari graphics to depict various horrific events. A robotic voice spells out things like: “Help them”, “Save them” or “Save him”.

One mini-game has you playing as Freddy, taking care of screaming children at a birthday party. A single sad child looks on from outside, and you look on as a purple man pulls up in a car, murders the child, and drives off. This is believed to be the first event in the timeline as this is the only mini-game that has just one animatronic, Freddy. The room is small, and it’s believed this all takes place in the first diner. The Puppet resembles the sad child. After this mini-game The Puppet jumps out of the screen and attacks the player. This event is believed to be what led the original owners to sell the diner to the company known as Fazbear Entertainment.

In the “Help Them” mini-game, The Puppet stuff the four missing children into the robotic suit, and gives their souls new life. Right before Golden Freddy jumps out of the screen and attacks the player, we see the fifth child appear. The purple guy who killed the first child, is also responsible for the death of the five missing children. In the Foxy mini-game, Foxy runs out twice to meet the kids. The third time, we see the tall purple man again, smiling. Foxy goes into the room to find five dead children.

In FNAF 2, the animatronics have facial recognition software, linked to the national sex offenders database as a safety measure. We learn from Phone Guy on nights 4 through 6 that the new restaurant is once again under investigation. “Someone used one of the suits.” The Golden Freddy killer struck again. The final death mini-game supports this, Freddy walks through an exact replica of the building, seeing the five dead children spread out through various rooms. Based on what Phone Guy says, it seems the guilty party is the former night shift guard who moved to day shift. Phone Guy makes several references to suddenly having an opening for during the day.
